Firmware Update:

If you have the Bell MC998 Stick, you need to update to this firmware!!!

 

If you have any problem, you may need to read below,

For most, you will only need the file above which we call version 16

BETA FILE TO FIX WIND AND SIP ISSUE:

The following is a fix for the Windmobile stick in Toronto as well as have SIP issues fixed for anyone who uses SIP.

This Bell MC998D firmware is only needed if the Bell stick is not being detected and you already have firmware version 16 or higher on.

It is normally not needed.

Instructions on how to update the router:

1) Click on above link and save file to your computer.  Please remember where you save the file, if not sure, save file to your desktop.

2) Make sure you are connected to the internet with a cat5 internet cable like the yellow one that came with the unit.

3) If you are connected wirelessly, please disconnect and ensure that the wireless connection is disabled.

4) Open your internet using your browser.

5) Go to the web address: http://192.168.0.1

6) Enter the username and password to log on, by default, username and password is "admin"

7) Select: Advance Mode on the top left

8) Select: "System" on top right

9) Select: "Firmware"

10) Click: "Browse..."

11) Select the file you just downloaded " 201.131.1-016" and select "Open"

12) Select: "Upgrade"

At this point, the router is being updated.  It is very important that you do not do anything until it is fully upgraded.  This update will take between 5-10 minutes.

If you want to do a full refresh, you can do the following after unit is updated:

1) Select "Advance Mode"

2) Select "System"

3) Select "Settings"

4) Select "Reset" (This will reset the router to the factory settings.  It will not erase the new update. Note if you do this, you will have to configure your wireless security again if you have done this in the past.

Changes in the new firmware:

- Support for Bell 21MB/s stick (MC998D) also includes fix for Bell disconnect issue
- Fido issue fixed, now connects instantly
- Many new world internet sticks included (over 80 modems)
- Other minor updates
- Currently, 100% support for the Canadian market with this new update.
- Most USA stick supported
- APN in list for most of the SIM based providers

IMPORTANT:

Please do not connect to the unit wirelessly
Please connect to unit with the cat5 internet cable as doing the firmware update may cause the unit to malfunction.
Please also ensure that you have turn off your wireless setting on your computer to make sure it does not connect wirelessly without your knowledge.

For Verizon users:
please do the following after you have upgraded the firmware:

To set it up, run the wizard:
For network type, select CDMA 2000 (EVDO) 
Nothing for username or password
Connection Method: Always Connected
Dial Number: #777
SIM Pin: leave blank

For AT&T Customers:

To set it up, run the wizard:
For network type, select UMTS 3.5
3G Access Point Settings: Manual or Select USA from the list
APN (Access Point Name): isp.cingular
Nothing for username or password
Connection Method: Always Connected
Dial Number: *99***1#
SIM Pin: leave blank

For T-Mobile Customers:

To set it up, run the wizard:
For network type, select UMTS 3.5
3G Access Point Settings: Manual
APN (Access Point Name): epc.tmobile.com
Nothing for username or password
Connection Method: Always Connected
Dial Number: *99***1#
SIM Pin: leave blank
